Faire un trek en montagne, ce n'est pas que les belles rencontres avec les autochtones et d'autres, ou être en extase devant les beaux paysages. Il y a aussi les petits détails du quotidien, avec un confort approximatif, les blessures à gérer, les perturbateurs à supporter, des réveils à l'aube, des pannes, de la sueur, des douleurs... Mais devant l'excitation de l'aventure et quand c'est pour la bonne cause, on finit par en sourire !		Trekking in mountain, it is not only meeting amazing people or admiring fantastic landscapes. There are also small details of daily life with a rough comfort, wounds to manage, troublemakers to bear, waking up at first light, breakdowns, sweat, pain… But with the excitment of the adventure and when it is for the right cause, you smile at the end!
Voici le 2ème épisode de notre rubrique "Coulisses du Trek" de Patricia. Nous l'avions laissée entre Chenek et Ambiko, soit à environ la moitié de l'itinéraire et à quelques "stations" du Ras Dashan. Depuis deux étapes, elle marche seule avec son porteur Facile et Ancho, son scout, le guide-armé-obligatoire-qui-ne-connait-pas-toujours-le-chemin. [voir Episode 1]. Nous la retrouvons au départ de Ambiko, en route vers le Ras Dashan, le point-phare de l'expédition.		Here is the 2nd episode of our serie "Patricia's Trek backstage". We have left her between Chenek and Ambiko, i.e. about at the half of the itinerary and some stations from Ras Dashan. Since two legs, she walks alone with Facil the porter and Ancho the scout, "the-compulsory-armed-guide-who-does-not-always-know-the-way-to-take" - See episode 1. We are joining her now at the departure of Ambiko, on the way to Ras Dashan, the hotspot of the expedition.
La veille, Patricia a traversé l'une des étapes les plus ardues de l'itinéraire. Passage du très joli col Ras Bwahit à plus de 4300m, dénivelés de 1400m, suivis de remontées tout aussi raides. Et on le sait maintenant, les   descentes, Patricia, elle n'aime pas. Encore moins, avec son handicap à la fesse. Elle a découvert, on se rappelle, que son réchaud a fait sa mauvaise tête avec l'essence, seul combustible que Patricia a trouvé à Gonder. Ses repas chauds, elle les doit aux cuisiniers d'autres groupes, qu'elle croise, ou aux autochtones, qui l'aident gentiment. Au moins, elle a une solution aléatoire mais c'est mieux que rien.		The day before, Patricia has lived one of the most difficult steps of the itinerary. She passed the beautiful Ras Bwahit col (+4300m), descents 1400m lower, then steep rising again. And we know now that Patricia dislikes descents, all the more with her buttlock handicap. She has realized, if you remember well, that her stove didn't like petrol, the only fuel she has found in Gonder. Her hot meals are possible only with cookers of group, she crossed, or thanks to local people, who kindly help her. She has a random solution. It's better than nothing.

Cette étape vers le Ras Dashan est une sorte d'aller-retour Ambiko-Ras Dashan. Elle s'est levée à 3h30. Ancho, son scout, l'a suivi de près. Facil, son porteur, reste sur place. Il a la responsabilité de tout préparer à leur retour, repas et tente. Patricia est partie avec dans le ventre une compote et un chocolat chaud. Les premières heures de marche se font en mode yoyo, dans la nuit noire. Ca monte, ça monte... et puis, ça descend vertigineusement, avec un dénivelé de 1600m. Patricia et son scout avancent à la lueur de leur lampe frontale. Un jeune du coin a proposé de les accompagner. Il trace le chemin, mais, lui, sans lumière. Visiblement, il connait la montagne comme sa poche. Tellement bien qu'il les emmène, tout comme Ancho ces derniers jours, sur des chemins de traverse, comme elle s'en rendra compte au retour, qui se fera en plein jour.		This step to Ras Dashan is a kind of two-ways Ambiko-Ras Dashan. She stood up at 3:30 am. Ancho, the scout, did the same. Facil, the porter, will stay with the responsibility to make everything - tent and meal - set when they'll be back. Patricia left with an apple compote and hot chocolate by way of breaky. The first walking hours are in yo-yo mode in the dark night. You rise, you rise... and then, suddendly, you go down vertiginously with a 1600m difference height. Patricia and the scout go on with a headlamp. A young local man has offered to guide them. He walks light less, in the dark. Obviously he knows by heart the mountain. So well that he takes them on backroads, just like Ancho those past days. Patricia will realize it on the way back, she will walk on at day.
Voyant sa raideur, le jeune guide lui prend son sac pour la soulager. A sa manière et sans le savoir, il contribue à notre opération de soutenir Genet et Ayelech, dans le projet de formation professionnelle pour qu'elles deviennent indépendantes.		Seeing Patricia's difficulty, the young guide takes her backbag to relieve her. On his own way and without knowing it, he's contributing to the project of supporting Genet and Ayelech in getting trained in a new job that will enable them to become independent.
Bientôt, ils sont rejoints par un autre jeune. Patricia le désignera "Barman" officiel du groupe. Tout comme ses deux autres compères, il ne parle pas anglais. Espère-t-il gagner un peu d'argent en aidant la "farandj" qu'est Patricia pour eux ? Farandj est le mot amharique pour désigner l'homme blanc. Bon, ici, c'est la femme blanche.... entourée de trois chevaliers servants, que Patricia aide à vivre un peu mieux pendant quelques jours avec les birrs qu'elle a donnés. Un bon deal, quoi. Le jour se lève sur des paysages magnifiques qui valent bien ceux du Grand Canyon en Arizona. Ils n'ont toujours pas croisé d'autres trekkeurs ou touristes. Avant   d'entamer la dernière ascension avant le Ras Dashan, ils traversent une vaste grande plaine. Le soleil, qui les suit depuis quelques heures, passe lui aussi un cap : de lumière, il devient chaleur.		Soon, they are joined by another young man. Patricia will assign him as the official "Barman" of the team. Like the two other companions, he doesn't speak English. Does he hope to earn some money by helping the "farandj" that Patricia is for them? Farandj is the amharic work to designate the white man. Well, here, it is a white woman... with three devoted knights that Patricia is helping to better live during a few days with the birrs she gave. A good deal, then. The sun is rising on splendid landscapes that are as amazing as the Grand Canyon's ones in Arizona. They didn't meet any other trekker or tourist. Before starting the ascent to Ras Dashan, they walk on a big valley. The sun following them for a couple hours is crossing a line too : from light it is becoming now heat.

Si les derniers kilomètres sont de plus en plus pentus, les derniers mètres, eux, exigent de mettre la main à la pierre,  défaut de la pâte.		If the last kilometer are more and more steep, the last meters require to pitch in with hand if you want to reach the top of the mountain.
Il est environ 9h30 quand Patricia atteint le sommet, soit 6h après son départ d'Ambiko. Les trois gentlemen de Patricia lui font une belle surprise avec des fleurs, qu'ils ont cueillies sur place, et un chant en choeur qui touche au coeur : un "welcome Patricia to Ras Dashan" en amharique, la langue locale. Patricia leur demande d'écrire "Bonne Année" en amharique sur le panneau qu'elle a trouvé à Gonder, et sur lequel elle a écrit les mêmes mots, en anglais. Ils n'y prêtent avec plaisir.		It is about 9:30 am when Patricia reaches her target, i.e. 6 hours after she left Ambiko. Patricia's three gentlemen have a surprise for her with flowers they picked on the floor, and a touching song in chorus "Welcome Patricia to Ras Dashan" in amharic, the local language. Patricia begs them to write "Happy New Year" in amharic on a panel she found in Gonder, and which she wrote the same words in English on. They do it with great pleasure.
Sur le toit d'Ethiopie, il ne fait pas vraiment froid. 14°C sans vent. Patricia en profite pour admirer la vue imprenable et magnifique à 360°, qu'il se doit de saluer en trinquant. Coca et bières coule à petits flots d'oued éthiopien, suffisants pour célébrer le moment.		On Ethiopian roof, it is not really cold, 14°C and no wind. Patricia can admire stressless the amazing 360 view worth to be celebrated with drinks. Coke and beers flow like a small oued. Far enough to make fun of this moment.
Le retour à Ambiko		Back to Ambiko
C'est une Patricia crevée, éblouie et tout en poussière qui revient au camp d'Amiko. Après une petite toilette dans la rivière, qui lui permet de se débarrasser de seulement une couche de poussière, elle se couche directement, sans manger la soupe que Facil lui propose. Demain, une autre longue journée l'attend tout comme l'aboiement et le grognement des chiens qui se battent à 1m de sa tente.		Patricia is landing to the camp exhausted, amazed and dusty. After washing shortly in the river, where she can only get a rid of a dust layer, she goes straight to bad, without eating the soup that Facil offered to her. Tomorrow will be another long day and tonight, dogs' barks and fights at 1 m from her tent will disturb her sleep.
