Une expédition en Ethiopie, c'est toute une aventure. Bien même avant d'y être, ça commence avec les vaccinations.		An expedition to Ethiopia is a real adventure. Far before being there. It starts with the vaccinations.

M: Patricia, raconte-nous un peu ce qu'il faut faire au niveau des vaccins ?		M: Patricia, tell us what you have to do about the vaccines?
C'est une activité qui peut paraître simple au premier abord. Rendez-vous chez le médecin, petit tour à la pharmacie pour récupérer les vaccins. Retour chez le médecin qui vous pique et complète votre carnet de vaccination. Il vous prescrit par la même occasion tous les médicaments nécessaires à votre voyage.		At the beginning, you may think it is simple. As usual in this case, you go to the doctor, then to the pharmacy to get the vaccines. After, you go back to the doctor for the injection. He fills your vaccination book and to the occasion prescribes all the needed tablets for your journey.
Autre option : on peut aussi aller à l’hôpital, mais il y a plus d’un mois d’attente !		Other option: you can go to the hospital, but you must wait at least one month?
M: Un mois d'attente ? Pourquoi ?		M: One month? Why?
Les hôpitaux sont très mal desservis, qu'ils soient de grands établissements ou de province. Ils ne reçoivent que 10% des vaccins nécessaires à couvrir la demande. En France, il y a un gros problème de pénurie de vaccins dans les laboratoires.		Hospitals are badly supplied whether they are in big or small cities. They get only 10% of the vaccines they need to cover the demand. In France, there is a big vaccines shortfall in the laboratories.
M: Ah oui? Comment tu le sais ?		M: Really? How do you know that?
Eh bien, je l'ai compris après avoir contacté une dizaine de pharmacies sur deux départements. Au début, je pensais que c’était la pharmacie, dans laquelle j'étais allée, qui ne s’approvisionnait pas mais après mon tour auprès des différentes officines, je me suis rendue à l’évidence : tous les vaccins ne sont pas disponibles, comme, dans mon cas, celui de l’hépatite A. D'ailleurs, mon médecin me l'a confirmé.		Well, I got it after contacting a good ten or so of pharmacies in two departments. At the beginning, I thought that the first pharmacy, I went to, was not or badly supplied. But after my journey to the different pharmacies, I could only acknowledge that all the vaccines were  not available, like in my case, the one for Hepatitis A. By the way, my doctor confirmed it.
J'ai aussi fait ma petite recherche internet sur le site français du CVE (Carnet de Vaccination Electronique), qui explique très bien la situation pour l'ensemble des vaccins. Il y a aussi un très bon reportage sur le sujet sur FranceInfo. Pour les trekkers d'autres pays, je ne connais pas la situation. Le site vaccinesafetynet peut être une bonne source d'infos.		I made also a research on internet. The French website CVE (E-vaccination book) explains very well the situation for all the vaccines. There is a good TV report on FranceInfo too. For the trekkers of other countries, I don't know what the situation is, but the vaccinesafetynet website can be a good source of info.
M: Comment as-tu fait alors, vu que tu dois partir le 16 décembre ?		M: So, how did you do, given that you leave on the 16th of December?
J'habite près de la Suisse, heureusement. Je suis donc allée à l’hôpital dans le canton voisin pour me faire vacciner contre l’hépatite A. Au moins c’est fait !		Fortunately, I live near the border with Switzerland. I went then to the hospital in the neightbouring canton, where I got vaccinated against the Hepatitis A. Now, I'm done!
M: Et pour les autres vaccins ? Tout le monde le sait, en Afrique, la liste des vaccins est particulière.		M: And what about the other vaccines? Everybody knows that, in Africa, the list is special.
La liste varie selon les pays. Au Togo, par exemple, il est obligatoire d’être vacciné contre la fièvre jaune. Il me semble que c'est la même chose pour la Tanzanie si on y entre en transitant par le Kenya. C'est une chose que beaucoup de trekkeurs font, quand ils projettent de grimper le Kilimandjaro, car les vols sont moins chers et on peut s'acclimater en grimpant le Mont Kenya. Quand je l'ai fait, en 2012, il me semble que c'était obligatoire et qu'on pouvait se faire vacciner à la douane. Maintenant, je ne sais pas ce qu'il en est. J'ai cherché la confirmation sur internet mais je n’ai pas retrouvé l'information. J'invite tous ceux qui veulent faire ce périple à bien se renseigner avant de partir.		The list is different from one country to the other. For Togo, for instance, the vaccine against the yellow fever is compulsory. It seems it is the same for Tanzania when passing by Kenya. This is something that many trekkers do when they plan to climb the Kilimandjaro, for the flights are cheaper and you can get acclimated by climbing the Kenya Mountain. When I did it on 2012, I think the vaccine was compulsory and you could get vaccinated at the customs. Now I don't know how it is. I checked on internet but didn't find the information. I invite all the people that want to do the same to make inquiries before the departure.

En Ethiopie, les vaccins fortement conseillés pour les personnes, qui, comme mois, voyagent dans des lieux pas toujours touristiques et pas en voyage organisé, sont :		In Ethiopia, the vaccines strongly recommended for the people like me, who travel in not really tourist places or not with package tour, are:
Fièvre jaune - à faire uniquement dans des centres spécialisés Hépatite A - très difficile à se procurer, même dans les hôpitaux Typhoïde - disponible en pharmacie DTCP* (Diphtérie - Tétanos - Coqueluche - Polio) - idem que pour l'hépatite A, problème de pénurie		Yellow fever - only in specialized centers Heptatitis A - very hard to get, even in hospitals Typhoid - available in pharmacy DTP* (Diphteria - Tetanus - Polio) - same than for Hepatitis A
* Désormais, vu l'intérêt de la coqueluche, on parle plutôt de DTP		* Formerly DTCP - C for whooping cough
